What Is a CC Lance Pipe?

Most steel mills and smelting operations are familiar with Lancing Solutions, such as an Oxygen Lance Pipe. Many steel mills will use a mild-steel (black steel) lance pipe to blow oxygen and other gases into their applications.

Our CC Lane Pipe takes it one step further, adding longevity, durability, and enhanced performance.

A CC Lance Pipe is a mild steel oxygen lance coated with a special refractory ceramic material. This dual-layer ceramic coating—applied to both the inner and outer surfaces — acts as a shield against extreme heat, corrosion, and oxidation. It also provides a crucial layer of electrical insulation, minimizing the risk of shock to operators. This additional shield allows for more use out of the same pipe since Lance Pipes are “consumable.” This allows our clients to have reliable, improved performance, all while consuming fewer pipes, making for more cost-effective solutions.

Its design is purpose-built for:

• Oxygen and carbon injection.

• Slag removal.

• Tap hole opening.

• Powder and gas blowing.

• Steel scrap cutting.

Key Benefits of CC Lance Pipe

1. Affordable and Cost-Efficient

CC Lance Pipes strikes the perfect balance between cost and performance. They offer more durability and features than standard black or SC (self consumable) pipes which are manufactured from black carbon steel. However, they are also more affordable at a price point that remains significantly lower than our Calorized CA Lance Pipes. With lower consumption rates and longer tap-to-tap performance, they deliver long-term savings to our customers.

2. Electric Shock Prevention

Safety is everything in steel production. After all, we must all ensure the safety of professionals and the steel production environment. Our Lance Pipes use the highest quality steel coils as a base raw material. The ceramic coating on CC Lance Pipes provides a layer of electrical insulation, reducing the risk of electric shock caused by exposed metal conductors. This feature makes it an ideal solution for environments where operational safety is non-negotiable.

3. Extended Lifespan

Thanks to its high-quality ceramic coating, the CC Lance Pipe offers a significantly longer lifespan compared to uncoated black pipes. While an ordinary black pipe may last just 8–20 minutes, the CC Lance Pipe typically lasts 30 minutes per unit during continuous use in a 60-minute tap-to-tap cycle. That means fewer pipes are consumed, resulting in less downtime and increased operational efficiency.

Selecting the correct size depends on your furnace's setup, flow rate requirements, and the type of application. CC Lance Pipes are available in a wide range of diameters and lengths.

Key Applications of CC Lance Pipe

Ceramic Coated Lance Pipes play a critical role in high-temperature metallurgical operations. Their durability, thermal resistance, and safety features make them the go-to solution in both routine and specialized processes across steel and alloy production. Here’s a deeper look at where and how they are used:

1. Steel Scrap Cutting & Molten Steel Refinement in Electric ArcFurnaces (EAFs)

In Electric Arc Furnaces, oxygen is blown at high velocity through lance pipes to cut steel scrap and facilitate melting. This oxygen reacts exothermically with carbon and other elements, generating intense localized heat.

Why CC Lance Pipes: The ceramic coating resists the extreme thermal shock from high-speed oxygen combustion, preventing premature failure of the pipe. This allows for continuous operation with fewer interruptions and more consistent scrap cutting efficiency.

2. Blowing Carbon and Lime Powder for Steel Grading

Precise chemical composition is essential for producing different grades of steel. CC Lance Pipes are used to inject carbon, lime, and other powdered materials directly into the molten bath to achieve the desired carbon content and remove impurities.

Why CC Lance Pipes: Their internal ceramic lining protects the steel pipe from corrosive and high-temperature reactions, ensuring smooth material flow and preventing clogs or degradation during powder injection.

3. Slag Removal in Oxygen Converters

During the steel refining process, residual slags form as a byproduct and adhere to the inner surfaces of converters. These slags must be removed to maintain reaction efficiency and product purity.

Why CC Lance Pipes: The high-heat resistance allows these pipes to be used for oxygen lancing to melt and dislodge stubborn slag deposits, restoring converter capacity and reducing cycle times.

4. Inert Gas Injection into Furnaces

In processes like secondary steelmaking and ladle metallurgy, inert gases such as nitrogen or argon are injected to refine steel by degassing, stirring, or preventing oxidation.

Why CC Lance Pipes: Their ceramic insulation ensures the pipe does not react with the inert gas or degrade under constant heat, preserving gas purity and ensuring consistent flow without blockage.

5. Tap Hole Opening in Furnaces

Before molten steel or iron can be tapped from a furnace, a sealed tap hole must be opened, typically by burning through refractory plugs.

Why CC Lance Pipes: The extreme heat generated during oxygen lancing to open these holes can destroy standard pipes quickly. CC Lance Pipes resist this high thermal load, maintaining structural integrity and allowing clean, safe tap hole opening with fewer pipe changes.

6. Oxygen Injection into Silicon Smelting Furnaces

In the production of silicon metal, a mixture of silica and carbon is reduced at extremely high temperatures. Oxygen lancing is used to adjust combustion, temperature, and chemical balance.

Why CC Lance Pipes: These environments are highly corrosive due to silica fumes and extreme heat. The dual-layer ceramic coating protects the pipe’s metal core, allowing for accurate oxygen delivery without contamination or pipe failure.

A Smarter Choice for Steelmaking

Ceramic Coated Lance Pipes are not just a better product—they're a smarter investment. With fewer replacements, enhanced safety, and improved furnace efficiency, this product supports both operational productivity and worker well- being.
